my father’s youngest sister was into crafts. her name was tiay linda. i think she was able to make some kind of a living making her craft-y things.

one of the things she would do was to take calendar pinup pages (they were the right poster-like size, i guess) and decorate–or dress the models’ pictures up–with pieces of cloth, sequins, glitter, lace, cord and others.

i like the use of collage, greek/russian orthodox iconography and playing with paper dolls that’s involved (i had quite a collection of paper dolls and i played with them more than the plastic dolls).

this is one family tradition i want to help keep alive.

this picture reminds me of what she did with those calendar girls–hers were more gaudy, non-digital.
